Houston Ballet Academy is proud to offer workshops for both students and teachers. Students will develop their technique and artistry with Houston Ballet Academy’s world-renowned staff and guest artists. Teachers will examine pedagogical methods, techniques and teaching styles, observe classes and engage in discussion. Workshop topics include technique, coaching, character and more. No prior enrollment in Houston Ballet Academy or its programs is required to attend.
Houston Ballet is an approved CEU provider by the Texas Education Agency.
Led by Houston Ballet Strength and Conditioning Coach Aki Kawasaki, this series offers in-depth Body Conditioning workshops for dancers, teachers and students ages 12 and up. The 2022-2023 season workshops will help improve your fitness, find better balance, and increase the elevation of your jumps.
Join us for an opportunity to learn choreography from Stanton Welch’s Romeo & Juliet. Dancers will take a technique class, and then dive into choreography with coaching from Lower School Principal & Children's Ballet Master Beth Everitt that will help them grow as dancers and actors!
Following the workshop, participants will see the matinee performance of Stanton Welch’s Romeo & Juliet, which is described as “…a tragedy dripping with drama, detailed designs, and terrific dancing. Set in fair Verona, with glorious Italianate sets and costumes by Roberta Guidi di Bagno plus Prokofiev's pounding score, the production has classical style alongside a subtly modern sensibility.”
This workshop is for Dancers ages 14+ with at least 3 years of experience dancing en pointe.
Cost: $120; includes one ticket to the Matinee performance of Romeo & Juliet immediately after the workshop.
Join us for a Character Dance class with world-renowned instructor Tom Bosma. This class will explore traditional Character Dance rhythms and styles. Students should be at Intermediate or Advanced level in ballet and 14 years or older. Female-identifying students should wear character skirts and shoes. Male-identifying students should wear jazz or character shoes.
This workshop is for dancers, Ages 14+ with 3 or more years of experience en pointe. Dancers will learn choreography from Stanton Welch’s Divergence, a ballet that requires its performers to be strong, athletic and fierce. Workshop participants will have technique class and learn choreography from a Company dancer who has performed this work.
Cost: $120; includes 1 ticket to the Matinee performance of Divergence immediately after the workshop.
