Stanton Welch’s Divergence, the popular, unexpected and explosive audience-favorite returns as a complete work for the first time since 2012! Aszure Barton’s Angular Momentum brings its notable Houston heritage to the stage once more, paying homage to Space City with influences ranging from Houston’s architecture to the moon landing! Set to Mason Bates’ hybrid orchestra-electronic score, this ballet is an otherworldly experience. Finally, Tony award winning Justin Peck, fresh off choreographing Golden Globe winning musical West Side Story returns to create his second work on the Company! This mixed repertoire program is sure to be a showstopper!
One of ballet’s greatest love stories, Stanton Welch’s Swan Lake is an opulent production inspired by Pre-Raphaelite painter John Williams Waterhouse’s work, The Lady of Shalott. The love between Prince Siegfried and maiden-turned-white-swan Odette is tested by the evil knight, Rothbart, and his black-swan enchantress, Odile. Welch imbues these characters with greater psychological complexity in his staging, giving the ballet a twenty-first-century pace with Tchaikovsky’s beloved dramatic score.
