BIO

Ryo Kato was born in Saitama, Japan. He began his ballet studies at the age of 12 at Acri Horimoto Ballet Academy in Japan. In 2010, he earned a scholarship from the National Ballet School in Portugal. In 2011, Kato was the Gold Medal winner of Berlin National Competition in Germany and became a finalist of Prix de Lausanne that next year. Kato danced with State Ballet of Georgia and The Hong Kong Ballet as a Soloist before joining Houston Ballet.

His roles with the Company include the title role Basilio from Ben Stevenson's Don Quixote, Prince Désiré and the Bluebird in The Sleeping Beauty, James in La Sylphide, Ali, Lankendem in Le Corsaire, Colas in La Fille mal gardée, Albrecht and Hilarion, the peasant pas de deux in Giselle, Nutcracker Prince in The Nutcracker,  and Prince Siegfried in Swan Lake
