HOUSTON BALLET II PRESENTS
TWO SPECIAL PERFORMANCES OF THE SLEEPING BEAUTY
TARGETED TO CHILDREN AND FAMILIES
Forty-Five Minute Performances Includes
Question and Answer Session and Opportunity to Meet the Dancers
HOUSTON, TEXAS - On Sunday, May 19 at 11:30 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. Houston Ballet II, Houston Ballet's second company of young dancers training in Houston Ballet's Ben Stevenson Academy, will give performances of an abbreviated version of The Sleeping Beauty, designed especially for family audiences and children between the ages of 3 and 12. The performance will take place at the Houston Ballet Center for Dance, 601 Preston Street in downtown Houston. It will last 45 minutes and will feature the young artists of HBII dancing to taped music. Tickets are $10, and may be purchased by calling 713-227-2787.
This performance will include excerpts from the famous third act of The Sleeping Beauty, including Puss in Boots, Little Red Riding Hood and the famous duet between Aurora and her prince celebrating their love. It will be followed by a short Question and Answer session with the dancers. There will also be a brief 10-minute opportunity following the performances for children attending the performance to meet the HBII dancers and get their autographs.
About Houston Ballet II
Houston Ballet II is the second company of Houston Ballet, America's fourth largest ballet company. Comprised of a stellar array of ballet students from around the world, Houston Ballet II members perform a diverse range of dance works such as excerpts from the great classics like The Sleeping Beauty, Swan Lake, and The Nutcracker to contemporary works by Houston Ballet Artistic Director Stanton Welch.
The mission of Houston Ballet II is three-fold; to provide students the opportunity to dance leading roles in varied repertoire, to allow the dancers to develop technically and artistically through performance experience, and to serve the greater Houston community by providing quality, professional performances. The visibility of the excellent training in Houston Ballet II supports the growth of the professional company at large.
Under the direction of Stanton Welch, Artistic Director and Shelly Power, Academy Director, Houston Ballet II dancers are led by the internationally acclaimed coaches and teachers Claudio Muñoz, ballet master for Houston Ballet II; Sabrina Lenzi, ballet mistress for Houston Ballet II and Houston Ballet's artistic staff. Houston Ballet II second company members tour both nationally and internationally, and have performed in Mexico, China, Hungary, Guatemala, and Lausaunne, Switzerland where Houston Ballet II performed at the prestigious Prix de Lausanne dance competition in February 2013.
