The realization that performing brings me unparalleled joy is what I consider to be a defining moment.

Bio

Alyssa Springer began training at Ballet Pacifica, where she performed as Clara in Brian Reeder’s The Nutcracker under the direction of Ethan Stiefel. Ms. Springer continued her training with John Gardner and Amanda McKerrow of American Ballet Theatre, as well as California Conservatory of Dance and Anaheim Ballet. For two summers, Ms. Springer attended the prestigious Stiefel and Stars program, where she danced alongside numerous international ballet stars and worked with renowned choreographers.

In her first year as a Houston Ballet Academy student, Ms. Springer performed as a Snowflake with the company in Ben Stevenson’s The Nutcracker. She joined Houston Ballet II midyear and was offered an apprenticeship with the company shortly after. She rose through the ranks from corps de ballet member in 2013 to demi soloist in 2017.  She was promoted to soloist in 2019.

She has performed the following feature roles: William Forsythe’s In the Middle, Somewhat Elevated; Anita in Jerome Robbin’s Westside Story Suite; James Kudelka’s Passion*; Princess Louise in Sir Kenneth MacMillan’s Mayerling; Trey McIntyre’s In Dreams; and The Lilac Fairy, Fairy Beauty, Fairy Generosity, The White Cat and Pas de Quatre in Ben Stevenson’s The Sleeping Beauty.  Ms. Springer has danced in the following Stanton Welch works:  Sugar Plum Fairy in The Nutcracker, Aphrodite in Sylvia*, Princess of Russia and Princess of Spain in Swan Lake, Princess de Lomballe in Marie, Zulma in Giselle among many others. Ms. Springer has also performed works by George Balanchine, August Bournonville, Sir David Bintley, Ronald Hynd, Jiří Kylián, Trey McIntyre, and Twyla Tharp.

Ms. Springer has danced in several tours including Stanton Welch’s Swan Lake in Dubai, UAE and Minneapolis, MN (2018); Stanton Welch’s Velocity in Bonn and in Ludwigshafen, Germany (2017); and Stanton Welch’s world premiere of Just and Sons de L’âme and Trey McIntyre’s In Dreams at Jacob’s Pillow in Becket, MA (2018).  As part of the Company’s 50th tour in October of 2019, she traveled to New York City’s City Center to perform in Mark Morris’ The Letter V.
