Houston Ballet Academy's Preschool Program offers an engaging selection of movement and dance classes for children ages 2 – 6. These classes are designed to introduce students to the art form of ballet in a creative and inspirational environment. No auditions required.
Class placement is based on students age as of September 1st. Please check the schedule below for the 2024-2025 classes.
Registration opens to new students on Friday June 7, 2024.
Parent & Me - Age 2
The use of creativity and movement stimulates both mental and physical development as well as encourages the student to gain social skills and independence. Muscular strength, coordination, balance, memory and use of rhythm and musicality will all be explored. The exploration of music and the use of routine make this class a bonding experience for both the child and caregiver.
Joy of Motion - Age 3
Through developmentally appropriate creative movement, children develop coordination, balance, flexibility, strength and spatial awareness. The goal of this class is for each child to find their own pleasure through music and movement, while developing fine gross motor skills.
Creative Dance - Age 4
Creative Dance explores both the creative and physical dimensions of each child as they gain awareness of music, rhythm, and movement. Activities are designed to develop strength, coordination, creative thinking, and expression. Through classroom activities, children refine motor skills and develop the creative process through the use of props and imagery.
Pre-Ballet - Age 5
This class provides a bridge between Creative Dance and the Academy's first level of ballet. Children are introduced to the structure and discipline of a ballet class, as well as music awareness and basic ballet terminology. Pre-Ballet emphasizes creative expression through movement to music.
Elementary Ballet - Age 6
This class is a young dancer’s introduction to classical ballet technique and vocabulary. Students will learn and develop musical appreciation – this includes both quality and rhythm, as well as the coordination of their movements to the music. Classes are structured to provide a strong foundation as students move into the Pre-Professional Program the following year. In addition to physical strength, students also develop memory and patterning skills as well as following specific directions.
