Houston Ballet's sleek new Margaret Alkek Williams Center for Dance is located at 601 Preston Street in the heart of downtown Houston's Theater District. The new, six-story, 115,000-square-foot facility, was designed with sustainable features by globally-recognized architecture firm Gensler. The building features nine dance studios, a Dance Lab that seats 175 for presentations as well as rehearsals, and artistic, administrative and support facilities for Houston Ballet and its academy.
Getting Here
Houston Ballet Center for Dance is located in downtown Houston at 601 Preston Street. The nearest cross streets are: Smith Street and Louisiana Street. Houston Ballet Center for Dance is located one block north of the Lyric Center, and catty-corner to Wortham Theater Center to the northeast side.
PLEASE NOTE: Houston Ballet's main season productions are held at the Wortham Theater Center at 501 Texas Avenue. For performances or events held in the Margaret Alkek Williams Dance Lab, please arrive at the Center for Dance and enter the building from Preston Street.
DIRECTIONS
From I-10 West traveling East: Take the Smith exit and veer right on Smith. The Center for Dance will be on your left at the corner of Smith and Preston.
From I-10 East traveling west: Take I-10 West, exit 769B San Jacinto St./Main St. Take a slight right at Shea, then left on Main. Turn right on Congress, then left on Smith. The Center for Dance will be on your left at the corner of Smith and Preston.
From I-45 North traveling south: Exit McKinney (left exit). Turn left on Bagby. Turn right on Preston. The Center for Dance will be on your left at the corner of Preston and Smith.
From I-45 South traveling north: Exit Houston Ave./ Memorial Dr. Turn right on Rusk, then left on Bagby. Turn right on Preston. The Center for Dance will be on your left at the corner of Preston and Smith.
From US-59 North traveling south: continue past the Convention Center. Take I-45 North/ Dallas exit. Exit Houston Ave./Memorial Dr. Exit Houston Ave./Memorial Dr. Turn right on Rusk, then left on Bagby. Turn right on Preston. The Center for Dance will be on your left at the corner of Preston and Smith.
From US-59 South traveling north: Take I-45 North. Exit Houston Ave./ Memorial Dr. Turn right on Rusk, then left on Bagby. Turn right on Preston. The Center for Dance will be on your left at the corner of Preston and Smith.
From Highway 290: Take 610 South to I-10 East. Travel east. Take the Smith exit and veer right on Smith. The Center for Dance will be on your left at the corner of Smith and Preston.
From Highway 225: Take 610 West to I-45 North. Exit Houston Ave./ Memorial Dr. Turn right on Rusk, then left on Bagby. Turn right on Preston. The Center for Dance will be on your left at the corner of Preston and Smith.
From Memorial: Memorial Drive becomes Texas St. Turn left on Bagby, then right on Preston. The Center for Dance will be on your left at the corner of Preston and Smith.
From Allen Parkway: Stay on Allen Parkway until you pass I-45. Turn left on Bagby. Turn right on Preston. The Center for Dance will be on your left at the corner of Preston and Smith.
