HOUSTON BALLET II DANCER INVITED TO PERFORM
WITH BALLETMET IN THE SLEEPING BEAUTY
MARCH 9-11, 2012

HOUSTON, TX - Houston Ballet II's Zecheng Liang has been invited to Columbus, Ohio to perform the Bluebird pas de deux with BalletMet in The Sleeping Beauty March 9-11, 2012 at the Ohio Theatre. The Sleeping Beauty is one of the greatest works of the 19th century classical ballet repertoire, and the Bluebird pas de deux is a very famous, technically demanding classical showpiece performed in the ballet's final act that displays the male dancer's skill and virtuosity.  For tickets and information visit, www.balletmet.org

This will be Zecheng's first time traveling as a guest artist - an opportunity that is essential to students in Houston Ballet II. Houston Ballet Academy Associate Director Shelly Power states, "Being a guest artist is important because students in Houston Ballet II are ready to launch their careers. Guesting not only exposes them to real company life but also allows them to practice what we have taught them to expect as a member of a company on their own without the safety net of Houston Ballet."

Ms. Power continues, "In this guesting with BalletMet, Zecheng is expected to perform a lead role which is exceptionally challenging, but an experience he may not be afforded in his early career. The Bluebird pas de deux from The Sleeping Beauty is a traditional piece that all dancers aspire to perform, but the opportunities to dance this piece in big companies are few and far between. Dancing with BalletMet will stretch Zecheng's skills and performance levels. Guesting is also exciting for the audience as they get to experience this young talent on the brink of launching his career."

Zecheng Liang was born in Qing Dao, China in 1992. Currently, he dances with Houston Ballet II and performs leading roles. Mr. Liang trained at the Guangzhou Art School from 2004 to 2010. During this time he received 2nd place at the Beijing International Ballet Competition 2008, 3rd place at the Beijing International Ballet Competition 2009, and was a finalist at the Prix De Lausanne 2010. Mr. Liang's repertoire includes classical and contemporary ballets choreographed by both Ben Stevenson and Stanton Welch, such as The Nutcracker, Napoli, Raymonda, Blue, and The Long and Winding Road. He continues to train with Claudio Muñoz in Houston Ballet II.
