Children's Open Class Program

The Children's Open Class Program consists of ballet classes for children ages 7-12. This program does not require an audition to enroll.

New this summer! Children's Open Class Summer Session

Session One: June 17 - July 5, 2013 
Session Two: July 8 - 26, 2013

This workshop is an introduction to the structure and discipline of classical ballet. Students will learn basic ballet terminology while building strength, flexibility, and musicality. Parents and friends are invited to observe class on the last day of each session to see their child's progress.

Ages 7-12: Monday and Wednesdays, 5:00 - 6:00 pm

Tuition: $225* (includes $25 Registration Fee)

*Space is limited and filled on a first come, first serve basis. Please check back frequently as sections may close.

Open Class Summer Registration Process:

2. Download the payment form and email back to payments@houstonballet.org . Please note your child's spot will only be reserved once payment has been received.

3. Once payment has been received and processed you will receive a confirmation email.

All tuition and fees paid to the Academy are non-refundable. Should a student withdraw after tuition has been paid, the remaining tuition will be forfeited to Houston Ballet Academy. The Academy is not liable or obligated in any way to process any refunds or issue any tuition credits.

 Girls must wear a black sleeveless scooped neck leotard with pink tights and pink ballet slippers. Hair should be in a neat bun. No jewelry is allowed. Boys should wear a short-sleeved, form-fitting, crewneck leotard or t-shirt with black bike shorts and black ballet shoes.

 Beginning Ballet Level 1 (0-1 year of ballet)

Tuesday 5:00-6:00 p.m.

Wednesday 5:00-6:00 p.m.

 Beginning Ballet Level 2 (1-2 years of ballet)

Monday 5:00-6:00 p.m.

Tuesday 6:00-7:00 p.m.

 Beginning Ballet Level ¾ (3+ years of ballet)

Wednesday 6:00-7:00 p.m.

 Please note student level placement will be confirmed after the first week of class for all levels.

To register your child for our 2013-2014 year-round program please refer to the "Register for Classes" option on the left hand menu on this page, then follow the appropriate directions. Before registering your child please note our registration requirements below:

 Registration Requirements:

• Beginning Ballet I: Must be 7 years old by August 26, 2013
• Beginning Ballet II: Must be 8 years old by August 26, 2013 and have at least one year of ballet experience.
• Beginning Ballet III: Must be 9 years old by August 26, 2013 and have at least two years of ballet experience.
•  *Placement is left to the teacher's discretion. Your child will be assessed the first week of class. Should a change be necessary the teacher will contact the parent directly.

Tuition

Tuition may be paid in full at registration or in four monthly payments. Family rates are available to families with more than one student enrolled in classes. The student in the highest level will pay full tuition, and each additional child will receive a 10% discount on tuition. 2013-2014 Open Class tuition for the year is $940, not including a $25 Registration Fee.

2013-2014 Academy Calendar

Attendance

All students are expected to attend every class scheduled for their level. If a child is unable to attend class, the Academy office does not need to be notified of the child's absence. There will be an end of the year showing and extra rehearsal dates and times will be announced at a later date.

Attire

Ballet
Girls: Black, sleeveless, scooped neck, tank-styled leotard, pink tights and pink ballet shoes. Hair pulled back neatly in a bun. No jewelry or skirts. Suggested slipper:  Bloch pink leather split sole, V instep with one elastic across (203G or 203L).

Boys: White short-sleeved, form-fitting, crewneck leotard, black bike shorts and black ballet shoes.
