In its first 50 years, Houston Ballet proved that the city could and would support a world-class company. Now, with 61 dancers, a full-time staff of 103, an exceptional training school, and the finest dance facility in the country, Houston Ballet is well poised to continue its brilliant trajectory – a trajectory that includes presenting full-length ballets that showcase the Company's strengths as well as one-act ballets that highlight its diversity.
Never did we imagine that we would be heading into our 2020-2021 season during a global pandemic, but we are 100% committed to continuing to create art during this time. Our fall performances are going virtual, with hopes to reschedule Mayerling in 2021. The Margaret Alkek Williams Jubilee of Dance and a brand new holiday production, in place of our beloved The Nutcracker, will also take place virtually in December 2020. We know how important celebrating the holidays with The Nutcracker is to our community, so we can't wait to share in the holiday spirit with all of our patrons in the digital space.
We are approaching this season with a strong resolve to produce a season for our loyal subscribers and fans. We will continue to be flexible in this ever-changing landscape and promise to communicate any changes to our season with our subscribers in a timely manner. We are working closely with the experts at Houston Methodist to ensure that when we do return to The Wortham Theater Center, we are taking every step possible to provide a safe theater experience for our patrons. Please stay tuned for more information on these changes in the coming weeks.
Ballet is more than just the art we perform – it is our daily routines, our form of communication and most importantly, how we connect to our community. We miss seeing you and cannot wait to return to the stage and be with all of you again as soon as safely possible!
