Welcome to In Good Company, a series of dance films set to music by The Dead South. These works are a celebration of life — of dancing, singing, talking and laughing with family and friends — celebrating the connection to community. With weekly digital releases, we hope you will follow the journey as we continue to dive into the exceptional folk music by The Dead South and explore the intricate pas de deux between dancers and the camera as we capture dance on film.
Each dancer was filmed individually at the Margaret Alkek Williams Dance Lab in the Houston Ballet Center for Dance following strict social distancing guidelines set by Houston Methodist. The final films are the result of creative editing, intricate staging and a nostalgic nod to the craft of filmmaking.

About The Dead South
The Dead South, a gold rush vibing four-piece acoustic set from Saskatchewan, infuse the genre's traditional trappings with an air of frontier recklessness, whiskey breakfasts and grizzled tin-pan showmanship. The quartet, comprised of the gnarled baritone of Nate Hilts, Scott Pringle on mandolin, whistling cellist Danny Kenyon and virtuosic banjo player Colton Crawford, puts the interplay of unique and versatile voices front and centre with Hilts, Pringle and Kenyon all sharing lead vocal duties. This is the second project for The Dead South and Houston Ballet, with the release of Stanton Welch's Restoration in November 2020. Both the band and Stanton Welch hope to collaborate again once live performances resume.
