A graduate of Houston’s High School for the Performing and Visual Arts, James has been studying and playing drums since the age of 9. Including 2 years of music school after high school, he learned to play symphonic percussion and jazz drumming.
James’s main instrument has been the drum set, which he continues to play in his band of 25 years, Moses Guest. From 1996-2004, Moses Guest toured throughout the United States and to date, has recorded 8 albums. In 2013, James discovered a passion for playing hand drums after a 3-year hiatus from playing music. From then until 2015, he played with the group, Joy of Djembe Drumming, which performed throughout the Houston area.
James joined Houston Ballet Academy in the fall of 2021
