BIO

Mackenzie Richter is from Warner Robins, Georgia and has been dancing since she was seven. From 2012-2014, Ms. Richter competed in the Youth America Grand Prix, World Ballet Competition (2013), USA International Ballet Competition 2014 (Silver Medal), and Prix de Lausanne (2014). Ms. Richter joined Houston Ballet II in fall of 2014 after winning a Silver Medal in the Junior Division at the USA International Ballet Competition in Jackson, Mississippi. She joined the professional company as an apprentice in 2016.   She rose through the ranks from corps de ballet member mid-season in 2016 and to demi soloist in September 2017.  She was promoted to soloist in the role of the Lilac Fairy in Ben Stevenson’s The Sleeping Beauty in February 2020.

While in HBII, Ms. Richter performed in Stanton Welch’s Blue and Brigade; Ben Stevenson’s The Nutcracker; Ma Cong’s Calling; John Cranko’s The Taming of the Shrew; Harald Lander’s Etudes; and Raymonda. As a Company member, her repertoire includes Lilac Fairy and Aurora in Ben Stevenson’s The Sleeping Beauty, Iris in Sir David Bintley’s The Tempest and Hans Van Manen’s Grosse Fuge, along with numerous roles in Stanton Welch works such asThe Nutcracker, La Bayadère, Swan Lake, Sylvia, Giselle, Just and Powder.

She has danced in several tours including Stanton Welch’s Swan Lake in Dubai, UAE and Minneapolis, MN (2018); Stanton Welch’s Velocity in Bonn and Ludwigshafen, Germany (2017); and Stanton Welch’s world premiere of Just and excerpts of Sons de L’âme at Jacob’s Pillow in Becket, MA (2018). 

Ms. Richter was featured in Dance Magazine’s “25 to Watch” in 2018.
