A Defining Moment

Receiving my first professional contract with Houston Ballet. 

BIO

Samuel Rodriguez was born in Atlanta, Georgia. He began his ballet training at the age of 5 at the Maryland Youth Ballet shortly after moving to Bethesda, Maryland with Michelle Lees, Christopher Doyle, and Rhodie Jorgenson. He has attended summer intensives at the Orlando Ballet, Texas Ballet Theater, Magnus Northwest Dance Intensive, the American Ballet Theater and the Paris Opera Ballet. During his time at Magnus Northwest, Rodriguez worked closely with the late great teacher and mentor John Magnus. While at Maryland Youth Ballet Samuel danced lead roles in Maryland Youth Ballet’s Nutcracker and Empyrean Skies. He has performed in Maryland Youth Ballet’s Raymonda and Sleeping Beauty. Samuel performed in Lucy Bowen McCauley’s Before the Fall and Eric Hampton’s Two for Two. He was selected as a Finalist in the Kennedy Center Master Class Series from 2012-2014. In 2015 Samuel was awarded the “Be On Stage Prix” from the International Ballet Stage program in Barcelona. Rodriguez joined ABT as a Studio Company Member in 2014 before joining the Houston Ballet as an Apprentice in 2016.  He was promoted to a Corps de Ballet member in 2017.
