Tom Bosma was born on October 9th, 1950 in Hilversum, the Netherlands. He began his training under the notable teachers Miodrag Despotovic, Pece Atanasovski, Atanas Kolarovski (Yugoslavia), Cyril Haralampiev, Denjo Karadenev, Petar Grigorov (Bulgaria), Eleni Tsaouli (Greece), Theodor Vasilescu, Sever Tita, Gavril Chiur (Romania), Tamara Tkacenko, Anatoli Borsow (Russia), Valery Magitov (Ukrain).

 

In 1968 Mr. Bosma attained the Netherlands Dance Council diploma and was a dancer with the Yugoslav Dance Theatre, “ORO”. From 1970 until 1981 he was employed as ballet master and coach at the International Dance Theatre in Amsterdam. At the same time he was also working as character teacher with various professional dance-academies in The Netherlands such as the Dance Academy Rotterdam, Scapino Dance Academy in Amsterdam and the dance department of The Royal Conservatoire in the Hague.

 

Mr. Bosma made numerous study-trips supported by the Netherlands Culture Ministry. He traveled to Yugoslavia, Bulgaria, Poland, Russia, and the Ukraine studying with a multitude of schools and professional companies. Some of his credentials from this time include theState Ballet School Belgrade, Ensemble Orce Nikolov, Ensemble Tanec Skopje, the State Ballet School Sofia and State School for Choreography Plovdiv, State Ballet School in Warsaw and Gdansk, the State Ballet School Bucharest, Doina, Rapsodia Romana, Cununa Carpatilor, Bolshoi Ballet School, State Institute of Choreography G.I.T.I.S, State School and Ensemble Igor Moiseyev, Choreographic Institute Kiev, and Ensemble Pavel, Philip Koutev, Balkanska Mladost, Ensembles Majakovski, and Trakia.

 

From 1973 to 2014 Tom Bosma was employed as a character dance teacher and choreographer at the dance department of the Royal Conservatoire in the Hague. He worked as a guest teacher and choreographer for the National Ballet Academy in Amsterdam (Netherlands), Ballet Academy Cologne (Germany), John Cranko School Stuttgart (Germany), Hamburg Ballet School (Germany), Heinz Bosl Stiftung Munich (Germany), The Royal Ballet School (England), Icelandic Ballet School Reykjavik (Iceland), Institut del Teatre Barcelona (Spain), Conservatorio Superior “Maria de Avila” Madrid (Spain), Liceul de Coregrafie Bucharest (Romania), Conservatoire de Lyon (France), Dance Academy Hacettepe University Ankara (Turkey), École Supérieure de Danse du Québec Montréal (Canada), Yuu Kikaku (Japan), Showa Academia Musicae (Japan), Tokyo Ballet School (Japan), Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts (China), Houston Ballet Academy (USA), V. Chabukiani Ballet School Tbilisi (Georgia), Baku Choreographic Academy (Azerbaijan), Sociedad Mexicana de Maestros de Danza (Mexico), Escuela Nacional de Ballet “Fernando Alonso” Havana (Cuba), Escuela Superior Música y Danza Monterrey (Mexico), ‘”Swan Lake” character dances in the production of Marcia Haydée with Flandres Ballet (Belgium), and Santiago Ballet (Chile).

 

Mr. Bosma was the Deputy-Director of the dance department at the Royal Conservatoire in the Hague from 1999-2014. While holding this position he continued to teach and choreograph. Since his retirement, in September of 2014, Mr. Bosma works as a freelance choreographer and teacher of character and ethnic dance around the world.
