Kim Sonderegger was born in Minneapolis, MN. She received her ballet training at the schools of Joffrey Ballet, American Ballet Theater, and Houston Ballet under notable instructors such as Marjorie Mussman, David Howard, Ben Stevenson, and Willie Burmann. Ms. Sonderegger was associated with Ballet Arizona for 20 years, first as a dancer, performing corps and soloist roles, and later as a teacher and Interim School Administrator. She was Associate Professor of Dance at Arizona State University for four years, teaching ballet technique and related graduate and undergraduate courses. In 2008 Ms. Sonderegger joined the faculty of Miami City Ballet School as a primary teacher. Her choreography was regularly praised by Edward Villella for its sensibility, musicality, and creativity. Working with Miami City Ballet company leadership and national dance educators, Ms. Sonderegger researched and produced the school's Self Study for accreditation with the National Association of Schools of Dance. In 2013 Kee Juan Han, director of the Washington School of Ballet, invited her to join its full time faculty, a position she held until recently. She was responsible for Professional Training Program students and upper school levels, and worked with TWB trainees and company members. She choreographed regularly for student performances, staged ballets from the classical and neoclassical repertoire, and mentored students transitioning to both college and professional dance careers.

Ms. Sonderegger has taught and choreographed for students throughout the United States as well as in Japan, Brazil, and Colombia. She was recently invited to teach at Minnesota Dance Theatre and the Houston Ballet Academy. In 2016 she joined the dance faculty at the Peabody Institute in Baltimore, Maryland, where she taught and choreographed. She holds a Master's degree in Anthropology (Summa cum Laude) from Arizona State University, and has worked as an archaeologist in various parts of the world.
