Houston Ballet & the ERJCC of Houston
Satellite Pre-Professional Program
About the Program
Houston Ballet and the Evelyn Rubenstein Jewish Community Center of Houston present a Primary Ballet program at the J which will implement Houston Ballet Academy's pre-professional curriculum and make the ERJCC of Houston a satellite program for Ballet 1 students 6,7 and 8 years old with no experience and Ballet 2 students 8, 9, 10 and 11 years old with at least one year of experience who choose to focus on ballet. These two courses will lay the foundation for further study of classical ballet. At this level they follow a structured sequence of training stages designed to increase their technical skills, stamina, and discipline in accordance with their age and physical development. Children will take class one day a week. Plus 30 minutes rehearsal for recital preparation in the spring.
About the ERJCC School of Dance
The ERJCC School of Dance offers dance classes for all ages. The school was established in 1969 and is a vital part of the ERJCC. Distinguished choreographers rehearse and perform here. Special events such as Dance Month at the Kaplan Theatre, SPA/ERJCC I W Marks Master Class Series, and Generation Next have become an integral segment of the school.
"We look forward to offering Houston Ballet's programs and expert teaching at the "J" as we build bridges for the future. We are excited about the 2nd year. Lauren Anderson brings extensive and inspirational teachings for the 2nd year. Our goal is to build our relationship with the ERJCC's already strong dance program in hopes of collaborating in a variety of new and innovative ways."

Lauren Anderson, Outreach Associate
Native Houstonian Lauren Anderson danced with Houston Ballet from 1983 to 2006, performing leading roles in all the great classical ballets, appearing across the world to critical acclaim, and in the process, becoming one of Houston Ballet's most beloved stars. She trained exclusively at Houston Ballet's Ben Stevenson Academy from the age of seven. She joined Houston Ballet in 1983 and in 1990 became the first African-American to be promoted to principal dancer at Houston Ballet - and one of the few African- American ballerinas at the head of a major ballet company anywhere in the world. She is looking forward to bringing the fundamentals of classical ballet technique to our students.
