 Swan Lake Dragon

Help Us Refurbish the Swan Lake Dragon!Swan Lake

After so many performances the dragon has been slayed! Help us bring the magic back to Swan Lake!

Some “fiery” fun facts about the dragon:

The dragon has about 650 scales.

The dragon is modeled after a sculptural detail over a gate in a Chinese house.

The stage dragon was sculpted and painted from a ½” scale model.

One stagehand is positioned inside the dragon to operate its head and neck using counterweights, eyelids and a portion of the smoke effect.

The tail and back are also a ramp. This allows Siegfried to carry Odette over the dragon’s body.

The dragon was designed and constructed in 2005.

The skin and scales are formed with window screening. Once the screen is in place they are sprayed with sculpture foam and painted.

It takes 8 stagehands to set the dragon and lake scene for Swan Lake.
