HUNDREDS OF HOUSTON CHILDREN
KICK OFF HOLIDAY SEASON AT 24th ANNUAL
WORTHAM THEATER CENTER TREE LIGHTING CEREMONY

Houston Ballet, Houston Grand Opera and the City of Houston
unite to celebrate most wonderful time of the year

HOUSTON - On Wednesday, November 23 from 11:00 AM-1:00 PM, the holiday season will officially begin as hundreds of Houston children celebrate at the 24th annual Wortham Theater Center Tree Lighting Ceremony - a joyous festival held in the Grand Foyer of Wortham Theater Center downtown. This event is FREE and open to the public.

The highlight of the event will take place when Houston Ballet first soloist Kelly Myernick as the Sugar Plum Fairy lights the theater's 25-foot Christmas tree, illuminated with 8,000 sparkling lights. Other festivities include visits by characters from The Nutcracker and live holiday music by local bands and choirs. Houston Grand Opera's Girls' Chorus and the Houston Tidelanders will provide lively entertainment. Delicious eats and drinks will also be available, as well as the chance for children to have their picture taken with Santa Claus!

The 2011 Wortham Theater Center Tree Lighting Ceremony is generously sponsored by KUHF 88.7 FM Houston Public Radio. Ernie Manouse will be the guest speaker, while KUHF's Elaine Kennedy will host the event.

Houston Ballet's 24th annual Tree Lighting Ceremony celebrates the opening of The Nutcracker.  Performances run November 25 - December 27, 2011 at Wortham Theater Center. Tickets start at just $19 and may be purchased at the Tree Lighting Ceremony, by calling (713) 227 ARTS or online at www.houstonballet.org.
