Academy Special Projects Intern

Houston Ballet Academy executes many of the same functions as a professional company, but offers a chance to be involved in every aspect of ballet administration, planning, and execution. • This will consist of coordinating a supplemental class that will allow students to explore dance related careers that do not include performing.
    • The intern will coordinate a teacher in each of the designated areas, and develop a curriculum and schedule classes.
    • Each class will have a final project, present a synopsis of the program during the end of the summer performances which will showcase the students and their projects.
  • Creation and design of performance playbills
    • The intern will design the layout of the program all 3 summer performances using a graphic design program, will coordinate with artistic staff to secure that casting is accurate, and will be responsible for researching various aspects of the performance, including music and photo credits, teacher credits, staff credits, and program notes.
    • The intern will also design and send out save-the-date card and invitationsto for the AFA performances.
  • Public Relations and Marketing for two performances: AFA performance and the end of the summer performances
    • Intern will act as special events coordinator and work with American Festival of the Arts Director and Houston Ballet Associate Director to develop a PR and Marketing strategy to promote the 10th anniversary of the collaboration between the two groups.
    • Will work closely with Houston Ballet Marketing and Public Relations Associates to ensure that both AFA and end of the summer performances are well publicized to the community.

Interns will be paid a salary of $2,500 (pre-tax) for the eight-week term. Salary is funded through the ExxonMobil Community Summer Jobs Program.

Applicants must be a current undergraduate college student who will be returning to college as a full-time student (at least 12 credit hours) in the Fall of 2007, and must have earned at least 24 credits.
