One defining moment… When I realized that you can always redefine yourself
James Reed Gotesky was born in Washington D.C. and raised in San Francisco. He was initially attracted to dance for its theatrical challenges. An actor and athlete before a dancer, he found that ballet was the harmonious marriage of the two. He started his training with Richard Gibson at the Academy of Ballet and finished his training at San Francisco Ballet School under the coaching Cuban sensastion Jorge Esquivel. James then moved on to perform with Boston Ballet, Pacific Northwest Ballet and Texas Ballet Theater. James joined Houston Ballet in 2003 and went on to perform numerous principal and featured roles, including the title role of Dracula, Guard in Christopher Bruce's Swan Song, Rothbart in Swan Lake, Tybalt in Romeo and Juliet, The Wicked Stepmother in Stanton Welch's Cinderella, Sharpless in Stanton Welch's Madame Butterfly and the 6th pas de duex in Jiri Kylian's Petite Mort, to name a few. Mr. Gotesky was promoted to demi soloist in March 2009.
