Director of Individual and Major Gifts

Department: Development
Reports to: Chief Development Officer
Status: *Full-time -Exempt with benefit package
Direct Reports: To be determined
*Please note: This position does require significant work time outside the normal business hours

Summary: Reporting to the Chief Development Officer, the Director of Individual and Major Gifts is responsible for the overall management of individual solicitations including patron programs and of the major gifts program.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with the Chief Development Officer and other directors within the development department to formulate the future direction of fundraising efforts for Houston Ballet
  • In consultation with the Chief Development Officer, develop and implement a plan for major gift fundraising
  • Manage a personal portfolio of 100 or more prospects
  • Qualify additional prospects on an ongoing basis
  • Develop and implement strategies to maximize annual contributed support through the management and improvement of the annual fund including direct mail, telefunding and personal solicitations
  • Manage and prepare a growth plan for Houston Ballet patron groups
  • Prepare and manage budgets for individual giving and major gifts functions
  • Oversee gift acknowledgement process for individual and major gifts
  • Operate as an integral member of the Development Department team
  • Other duties as assigned

Minimum REQUIRED Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree or higher degree required
  • Minimum of five years of development experience with three or more years of individual giving and major gifts experience
  • Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Strong presentation skills
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks, prioritize work and be able to meet tight deadlines
  • Ability to analyze cost effectiveness of programs
  • Knowledge of database, Internet, spreadsheet, and word processing software
