Favorite Ballet: Grinning in Your Face by Christopher Bruce Romeo and Juliet
One defining moment... I don’t feel I have one moment that stands out in a particular way, but having a mom who shared my passion has made my journey all the more special.
Jacquelyn Long began her ballet training at age six under the direction of her mother Suzanne Lownsbury Long, Janina Michalski Bove and Pat Sorrel. Jacquelyn started studying in summer intensives at age 11 and has trained at Central Pennsylvania Youth Ballet (CPYB), Ballet Met, Atlanta Ballet, American Ballet Theatre (ABT) and Houston Ballet. She left her home studio, Ballet Virginia International, at age 16 to join Houston Ballet II (HBII), after attending three summer intensives in Houston on scholarship. In HBII she got opportunities to tour across America. After two years with HBII, Jacquelyn joined Houston Ballet as a Corps de Ballet member in 2012.
Since joining the company Ms. Long has had the privilege of dancing in Stanton Welch's Swan Lake, Madame Butterfly,La Bayadère, Marie, Of Blessed Memory, and Cinderella. She has also been a part of Ben Stevenson's The Nutcracker, Sleeping Beauty,and Romeo and Juliet; George Balanchine's Four Temperaments and Ballet Imperial; William Forsythe's In the middle, somewhat elevated; Jiří Kylián’s Sechs Tanze; Ronald Hynd's Merry Widow;David Bintley's Aladdin; Twyla Tharp's Brahms-Haydn Variations;Jerome Robbin's The Concert; and Trey McIntyre's Peter Pan. Ms. Long has also been a part of world premieres with the company including Stanton Welch's The Young Person's Guide to the Orchestra, The Rite of Spring; Garrett Smith's Return; Melissa Hough's ...the third kind [is] useless;and Azsure Barton's Angular Momentum.
Ms. Long has had the privilege of being featured in the Dancer's Spotlight of the 2013 October/November issue of Pointe Magazine and in the 2013 February issue of Dance Sprit Magazine.
