HOUSING OPTIONS

University of St. Thomas Chaperoned Dormitory:
Out of town students ages 12+ in levels 5-8 may reside in a chaperoned dormitory at the University of St. Thomas, Guinan Hall. With high-tech security, courtyards, wifi, and a cafeteria, Guinan is an ideal dormitory for summer students.

The Guinan room design includes balconies opening to beautifully landscaped courtyards, and a view of either campus or the Rothko Chapel. Rooms are double-occupancy with private bathrooms.  All rooms have built-in closets and individually controlled thermostats. Rooms are furnished with two extra long twin beds, two desks, two chairs, and two chests of drawers. 

A team of well-trained chaperones provide 24-hour supervision and transportation to and from the Academy. For a virtual tour of Guinan Hall please click here: Guinan Hall Virtual Tour. This option is arranged by Houston Ballet Academy, other available options are arranged by student. 

The approximate housing fee is $2970 for the 6-week program and $1545 for the 3-week program, which includes swimming pool privileges and breakfast and dinner daily in the St. Thomas cafeteria with innovative menus designed for dancers. Note the three week option is only available for students placed in level 5. For more information regarding the dormitories, please visit www.stthom.edu.

For an additional fee, we can provide transportation to and from the airport during check-in and check-out dates.

Check-in day is Saturday, June 20, 2015, and check-out day is Saturday, August 1, 2015 for our 6 week students.

Home Stay:
Students have the option of living with a home-stay family. Home Stay costs approximately $850 per month.  Please visit www.homestayhouston.com for more information.

Non-Chaperoned Living:
There are many luxury loft apartments in close proximity to the Center for Dance. Average rent is approximately US $2,000 a month. There are also many apartments in the nearby River Oaks area. The Center for Dance is easily accessible by bus from this neighborhood. Average rent ranges from US $600 a month for shared living to US $800 for single living. 

For an additional cost: 

  • Pre-paid lunches from local caterers delivered to the Academy Monday-Friday. (Students may also purchase lunches on their own from delis or restaurants located within walking distance from the Center for Dance.)

  • Activities such as trips to NASA, the Museum District, Galleria Mall, Astros game, SplashTown Water Park, and other Houston attractions. See our Student Life page for more information!

Payment Plan:
Payments can be made in 4 installments for levels 5-8, with a minimum of 25% due at the time of registration. Levels 1-4 pay in 3 installments. Please note that all tuition, housing, and fees must be paid off by June 1, 2015. Students with delinquent accounts will be denied participation in the summer program. 

All tuition, housing payments, and student activity fees are non-refundable.
Students who withdraw before the start of the program will forfeit all payments made to Houston Ballet. The Academy recommends all students purchase tuition insurance: https://www.aplusplans.com/ 

Scholarships and Financial Aid:
Artistic staff of Houston Ballet awards a limited number of merit scholarships for the summer program during the Summer Audition Tour. All students are evaluated during their audition, and chosen students are notified through their acceptance letter. Parents are not able to apply for merit scholarships.

Financial aid is available for students based on need. Parents must request and complete a financial application prior to the registration deadline. For more information please contact the Academy Administrator.

Families should not apply for financial aid until after their child has been accepted into the Summer Intensive Program.

We are unable to offer financial aid for students in Creative Dance, Pre-Ballet, and Intro to Ballet.

The TADS financial aid application fee is not refundable under any circumstances.
